John Steinman, food journalist and former host of Deconstructing Dinner, a podcast on food issues, has written a report for the West Kootenay Food Alliance on models of food policy councils and organizations from across Canada as part of an attempt to recommend a structure for a new food organization in British Columbia.

This in-depth report — Towards a Regional Food System Alliance Development Strategy for the West Kootenay — looks into how food councils, non-profits, and other food system initiatives are formed and how they function. Among the organizations studied are the Toronto Food Policy Council, the Halton Food Council, Sustain Ontario, and the Waterloo Region Food System Roundtable.

Three pages are dedicated to the case study of the Roundtable (pages 40–42 of the report). The case study is a succinct summary of the Roundtable’s history, structure, meeting process, and success stories.
